If you want to travel in China, keep in your mind that there are several diffirent class of trains and diffirent class of seats even in the same train.

When travelling in the UK, it is often cheaper to buy combinations of tickets, e.g. for a trip between Newcastle and Edinburgh, buy a return from Newcastle to Berwick, and another for Berwick to Edinburgh. You can check fares on http://www.thetrainline.com before you go, or even purchase tickets from there if you live in the UK. Book as far ahead as possible and try to travel off-peak - this usually results in significantly cheaper tickets.
